The 2025 dry season in Indonesia began this month. However, it is starting gradually in various regions. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts this year's dry season will be shorter than usual in most regions. However, the risk of drought and forest and land fires remains.
According to BMKG, in an Instagram post quoted on Monday (April 14, 2025), El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) are currently in a neutral phase. This means there are no major disturbances from the Pacific or Indian Oceans.
Furthermore, sea surface temperatures in Indonesia are warmer than normal, potentially impacting local weather until September.
